After achieving successive League wins it was an optimistic University side whom hosted League Leaders and Champions Elect Leighton Buzzard B on 10th February. With almost double the total rating points it was always going to be an uphill task and so it proved to be.
Board 4 saw Andrew Pye assume good position early on but failing to exchange Black Bishops on h6 early on cost him at the end.
The young Lion Yusuf Khan, celebrating his 9th birthday, put up a spirited show vs Fred Dorn, who overwhelmed him materially.
Skipper Tim Hayden, playing Leighton Buzzard's Adrian Matthews, also captain, played a close tight game, but was overwhelmed by Adrian's greater experience.
Kamil on board 1 also lost in a very close match.
This left Abi, in his first league match for Luton to play a very good game and earning a consolation draw for the home side.
Thanks to the Leighton Buzzard players for agreeing a draw, as the game ran down to the final two minutes, and a discrepancy with the clock occurred. It was very tense for the spectators watching. Overall a great learning and experience to take away.
