The rise of Tim Hayden's chess performance this season has been remarkable. Since the middle of February, he hasn't lost a game for Luton C team, and the A team all against higher rated opponents, and then finished the league with a couple of wins. The upward trajectory continued at the weekend at the Milton Keynes Chess Congress, where is scored a very impressive 4/5 to finish joint top in the Under 1600 Elo section.
In the final round, he was paired against Mark Osborn, leader of his section after the first day when he deployed his favourite London System opening and a prepared sacrifice for a forced mate.
With this win, Tim ended the drought of a Luton player winning a chess tournament outside of the club.
