Luton Chess Club return at the Cordon Trophy 2023

The Cordon Trophy, the annual rapid play tournament, of chess teams in the Bedfordshire County Chess League was held on 28th September 2023 at Bedford Chess Club. The games are rated, but a fun way to begin the season with four rounds of 10 minute + 5 second games. Luton chess club fielded two teams at the Trophy, imaginatively called Luton A and Luton B. All of the players on our teams hadn't played a league game in years, or were new to the Bedfordshire League, or had played online and not over-the-board at this time control. Opposition teams had Fide Masters, County Champions and even a National Junior Champion on their boards, so it wasn't a surprise that we weren't able to come to the top of this competition. Nevertheless, Luton A players, Tommy O'Brien and Daman Singh each scored a win and a draw on boards one and three, Julian a win on board two and Samir an excellent three wins on board four. Congratulations to all who took part. We're now primed for the forthcoming season.
