Abiodun Nelson at the British Chess Championships

At the 2026 British Chess Champioships, Luton Chess Club's Abiodun Nelson entered in the Over 50 section. This was a very tough group with 15 titled players amongst the 58 playing over 7 rounds. As luck would have it, 5 of Abiodun's 7 pairings were against titled players! Undettered, Abi gained draws against a FIDE International Master, two FIDE Masters, a Womens International Master and two 2000+ rated players to finish on an impressive (considering the opposition) 3/7.
